As a guitar professor, from the 1970s he founded an international guitar class at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne/Wuppertal. Now a large number of internationally renowned instrumental soloists and pedagogues came from his class. Before retiring in 2009, he was dean of the Wuppertal branch of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne.
As visiting lecturer at the NRW State Academy of Music in Heek (Boken region) and the Federal Academy of Musical Youth Education in Trossingen, he spent many years working on the course's curriculum development and examination regulations.He is also the initiator of many famous festivals and seminars.Between 2005 and 2022, he held numerous honorary positions, including Chairman of the Advisory Board of the German Music Council "German Orchestra Competition".He was awarded the Federal Order of Merit in 1994 for his dedication to amateur music.
