Eubie Blacke
James Hubert Blake (February 7, 1887 - February 12, 1983), American composer, songwriter; jazz, popular and down-tempo music pianist. After working with Noble Sissle for a long time, he wrote the Broadway Musical Shuffle Along in 1921. This musical is the first musical to be performed on Broadway, written and directed by an African American artist. Some of his major productions are "Bandana Days", "Charleston Rag", "Love Will Find A Way", "Memories of You" and "I'm Just Wild About Harry". Eubie! It was the musical that opened the Broadway theater in 1978.
