József Filtsch (December 27, 1782 - January 16, 1860) was a Lutheran pastor from Augusta.
His careerSon of Thomas Filtsch, pastor of Selindek. He studied at the University of Göttingen in 1806. He was first a preacher in Sibiu; from here on December 16, 1808, he was called to pastor Szászváros. In October 1819 he went to Szászorbóra and in 1828 to Szászsebes as a pastor.His son, Carl Filtsch, was a favorite student of Chopin, a talented composer and pianist who died young. He himself published 15 numbered works between 1854 and 1860. L'Alouette and L'Hirondelle (Op. 5 No. 1 and No. 2) were recommended to harpist Johanna Esterházy. The text of the recommendation is "ame Madame la Comtesse Jeanette Esterházy, see Comtesse Batthiány".
