Giacomo Meyerbeer

Meyers Konversations-Lexikon 1885Born as the son of a wealthy banker, Meyerbeer started his music education at a young age, gaining his knowledge especially from Karl Zenter, Anselm Weber and Abt Vogler. After staying in England and France for a while, he moved to Italy, first under the influence of the opera trends in this country, and later settled in Paris, where he gave his first important operas such as "Robert le Diable" (Robert the Devil) and "Les Huguenots". The artist, who worked in Berlin for a while as the General Music Director of Prussia, returned to Paris.
