Helmer-Rayner Sinisalo was a composer, the People's Artist of the RSFSR(1959) and the USSR (1975). He has become the author of the first national symphony (1949) and the first national ballet Sampo based on the epos Kalevala (1959), and other musical composition in various musical genres.
