Description
For piano and voice. Not for...
(more) piano solo–in these arrangements, the piano does not play the melody. Ideal for singers looking for something other than the standard sheet music arrangements of these songs, or for the pianist who wants to play along with the original Ella recordings. The Discography page lists the Verve albums on which Ella sings these songs. I only have the recordings for five of the songs; of those five, I can say that four of the arrangements in this book closely follow the arrangements of the recordings (from the George Gershwin and Cole Porter Songbooks), with the left hand playing the same bass line and the right hand playing the same string counter-melodies or brass chords. On the fifth (Black Coffee, from The Intimate Ella), the arrangement in the book is in the same key, but the left hand plays a bass line that is simpler than (but compatible with) the one in the recording.
