Queen of the Ukraine. check...(more) it out on Youtube. It is was for figure skating program music. I had an ICON from eastern Europe/ Russia. I got a little prayer book with this ICON on it and I blew up the picture to make a cover for the music. In Russian the short caption read KREV KRISTA SPAHCEE NAS. I took it to see if Viktor Petrenko or Oksana Baiul would use it for their ice skating. The first people I came to were Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkhov. Wow! they look just like on TV. But they were tired from the workout and all these kids were flocking them with pens, so I didn't bother them. Actually I joked with Sergei Grinkov... hard work being a star huh?? especially the detail work!! He laughed a little ... "yup" he said as he signed more autographs. Too bad I didn't hand him the ICON I had in my hand.
Well in a short while I met Viktor Petrenko and Oksana Baiul.. I'm not an autograph hound. I didn't care about that. I did try to show them this score and hand them a recording. I wanted them to take the score because I think it is a great piece of music and how are they going to think this no name paul really composed it. So I thought the score might help. Anyway they grabbed it out of my hand and signed it and handed it back and just went on their way. I gave the recording to Viktor's brother so maybe they would hear it. I never heard anymore from them about it. On my way out of the parking lot, I drove past Viktor Petrenko (Olympic Gold medalist) and I had a big brass crucifix on the seat beside me. It was not a little one. It was a big one. My favorite one. I grabbed it and gave it to Viktor Petrenko. I don't know why.
Several of weeks later Sergei Grinkov was dead. Krev Kreesta Spahsee Nas means BLood of Christ Save Us.
Yeah.. you'll notice I finally converted it to a PDF on the day before the World Trade Center Attacks. Coincidentally I was playing a new song I learned by Gigi D'Augustino.."I'll Fly With You"
