This 'Milenka Serenade' of...(more) Jan Blockx, Flemish composer, who studied with Peter Benoit and with Karl Reinecke in Leipzig, is part of the ballet suite 'Milenka' (1888) , which was famous all over Europe.
It is a wonderful love song with an utmost fluent melody line and rich harmony.
Either sung or played on violine or clarinet ut, or even trombone, it remains one of the beautiful pages of the Flemish romantic school of the second half of the 19th century. Even as a piece of 'salon music', it stands a good chance of an encore by the audience!
